I was running Win98Se with no problems, but decided to go dual boot with Win2K pro. I have two separate drives so I tried to install 2K on the D-drive(Win98SE on the C drive) using FAT 32 file system. After completeing setup, and trying to boot into the win 2k, the computer shuts down and reboots over-and-over, until I select the Win 98 OS which boots fine. I even tried a re-install of win 98, but no success. Is there something that I am overlooking? Would this problem be related to the CD Key being typed incorrectly? THANX!

PS> I even tried to upgrade option with no success... :(

i shouldnt think so. if you typed the key wrog it should just ask you again.

as for rebooting, its obviously having some conflict with some driver or piece of hardware.
when you boot up, choose win2k, then keep pressing F8 untill the option list comes up. choose safe mode, and see if that works. if it does, then you can do some troubleshooting and check your device list.

LHG, Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, after pressing F8 to try booting in safemode, etc...none of the options available would allow the win2K to boot. All options would allow a quick glimpse of the win 2K startup screen, and then straight to reboot. How can you resolve the device conflict error that you were referring to? The device manager doens not show any conflicts (at least in win 98). Should I just reformat the drive and start fom scratch? Man I would hate to lose all of my data!

Yeah, tried that, didn't work :(... I also reformatted the drives and tried a single install of win 2k and again, no go!

the fact that 98 dev mgr shows no conflicts means nothing.

I'm also thinking that perhaps you've got a hardware problem. First thing I always suspect is RAM. Do you have more than one stick? If so, can you try each individually to see if it fixes the problem? Also can you try to reduce the memory timings (change to CAS3 instead of CAS2, also reduce FSB to 100) to see if that possibly fixes the problem?

Just some thoughts...

I have tried the memory stick switchup to see if there was a memory problem. Unless all four 128 mb sticks are bad, then I will have major issues since they all gave the same problem. I am having this same problem with a WinXP install. I am beginning to think that I am having a motherboard issue (Atrend ATC-6240). I am not clear on how to the change the memory timings...can you advise? Also What is the Bios "tweak"? Where can I get drivers for this board? The company website seems to be gone!
