Computer lacking memory error?

Hello!

I am playing an online game called EvE online. And I just had a strange error message:

"Your computer is lacking memory, close down EvE.exe or you will risk losing unsaved something..."

I hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE

And it said it was using 5GB I have 16GB.

So what am I missing?

It could be a 32 bit application that can only use 4GB. Doesn't matter what your total memory is. Next time you are running it, bring up task manager and see if it has "*32" associated with the process. That is a 32 bit executable.

Please press Win+R to open Run, then type in msinfo32.exe and press Enter. Make sure that Windows recognizes 16GB total and installed (a variance of less than .5GB is acceptable).

If this is not the case, then please power down the system, unplug it, press and hold the power button for three seconds to drain any remaining power and then open up the chassis and remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard. Put it back in after thirty seconds, then close everything back up, plug it in and try again.

Please be aware that removing the CMOS battery will cause you to lose any custom BIOS settings. You will have to re-enter any custom BIOS settings after putting the CMOS battery back in.

I dont have a Pagefile set, (its at 0) cause that has some improvements when Im streaming samples while creating music.

I've been running 3 clients like this for years with no error message.

When you say it can only run 4GB, Do you mean each exefile.exe32? Or can they only use 4GB combined across all 3 .exe/clients?

If a program listed in the task manager has "*32" that means that that program is a 32 bit executable and has 4GB limitation for that EXE. You may have a 64 bit OS but if you look at task manager MOST programs are still 32 bit.

Also, I recommend having at least 6GB of Pagefile space. Some programs will ignore the fact that there's free memory and put their data in the Pagefile even though there is memory still available.

It says:

They are using less than 740.000 KB each.

So I dont get why I had the error.

The Pagefile? Start at 840MB, max out at size 8GB. Seems like reasonable settings for having 16GB of RAM.

some programs demand some level of pagefile, personally I like a fixed pagefile and so 1024 1024 would be somewhere to start, although 8GB and 8GB would be equally valid.
