Computer looks like its in safemode

Hi,i just got a new mobo and cpu and installed them.when i booted up it sometimes shows a blinking underscore then boots,the other half of the time it shows 2 options,1: boot using default settings or something,2: regular boot.also when the login screen comes on it looks like my computer is in safe mode,i tried to change display settings but i cant.maybe it isnt recognizing my gpu?i checked device manager and it shows my gpu is connected but it says in properties,"Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35)".i tried to update bios using asus utility but no change.what do i do?all help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're using windows xp or 7, select the display device in the device manager and let windows look for an update online. Or you can download the driver off nvidia's or amd's website. These are large files and work with a variety of video devices. If you want better advice, list your complete system specs.

my specs are
amd athlonx2 6000+
asus m2r32-mvp
ocz gold 2gb(2x1) ddr2
gt 220
