Question Computer makes loud noises on startup ?

Hello,

My computer has started making really loud noises on start-up for the past 2 months now. It sounds like the fans are extra loud and clanky and whirring. Eventually after like2-3 minutes it stops and the PC sounds completely normal, all fans running smooth. Sometimes if I bash the PC it actually stops the clanking and whirring noise at the start. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this. I have no idea about computers.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Might want to include a video/audio clip of the issue you speak of. You should also take a sheet of A4 paper, roll it into a cylinder and then hold one end to your ear while the other end is used to probe for he source of the sound.

Sometimes if I bash the PC it actually stops the clanking and whirring noise at the start.
That's not how you tame noise in a PC. I wonder what you'd do if you heard someone snoring.

I've had it for about 2 years.

So i opened the case and cleaned the dust out and after starting it up again it still is loud. If I hold the edge of the part where the top fan is the whirring noise stops. But in general it seems that the whole PC (noise seems to be coming from all directions can't make out which bit, it all sounds loud) is still louder than usual. It seems to quieten slightly if I move it around or tap the case slightly. But after 5 minutes it goes to the normal sound that it always produced. I never experience any issues with it either.

It'd be nice to know what fans you have. It's possible they're not heavy duty and are showing their age. As they wear, they may be extra play in them leading to vibration until they 'warm up'. If that's the case, they would need to be replaced.

I'm honestly not sure. Do you think there's a serious problem that I should be concerned about, or is it generally a good sign that the PC goes back to normal sound after 2-5 mins of whirring?

As long as theyre spinning freely, it shouldnt be a problem other than noise. It is likely they'll get noisier for longer as they wear more. Worst case is they fail and stop spinning. Keep an eye on them, and maybe run HWInfo (free) to monitor temperatures. You could bring the pc to a shop and have them replace the fans.

Most of the time my pc is sitting around 30-50 in temp
