Computer no longer allows access to visable external drive

Greetings,
Please help me with this problem on my 6 month old Win7 desktop gaming computer.
Recently, when I plug my 1 TB (Maxtor) and 2 TB (Seagate) external drives they show up in Disk management and Device Manager but I no longer can "see" any external drives when I click on "computer" (as a hard drive or as a storage drive) and, although, I hear the "chime" when I plug in the storage drive to any USB, I do not get the pop up box asking me what my choice is for the drive. NOTE: UBS thumb drives and USB devices like printer and mouse still work perfectly.
Also, both drives work fine on my new Win8.1 laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Clubdoc. Try assigning the drives new letter from Disk Management. This might do the trick and here's a link with instructions on how to do that: How to change the drive letter assignment in Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP or 2000
Click on the Windows 7 link for step by step instructions. Let me know how everything goes.
