Im not sure where to post this. But a couple weeks ago I bought new memory unaware that it wasnt compatible with my mobo. Well it ran fine for almost 2 months. One day I had to remove the memory to tighten some screws on my radiator fan so it would stop making a terrible sound. Well I neglected to put the memory back in before trying to boot the computers and since then my computer shuts down at random with no pattern I’ve reset the bios and done all sorts of things to fix it in the event logs it was giving me windows powers kernel error. Everything I tried to do to fix that lead to no avail psu tests fine with fluke meter. Removing gpu does nothing running ram one at a time does nothing even in different slots. So I sent the ram back to Newegg thinking it was bad Corsair vengeance pro 1600mhz 16gb. Received replacement and it didn’t fix the problem either, and now then pc won’t even boot, starts up with power button no display all fans running and board has power but won’t turn off with power button. So I moved onto the mobo, asrock fatal1ty fm2A88x+killer, just finished installing a duplicate mobo and it solves nothing and I’m at a loss as what to do next other than buy compatible ram, but I don’t understand how’s the system functioned fine with it for months?

I found it! I was testing all the power connectors on the board and got to the 24 pin atx and it was the grey power ok wire was disconnected from the pin but wasn’t visible before I stuck the positive post in the pin. Reconnected the wire to a new pin and it works fine now.

when you resetted your BIOS did you do a proper CMOS clear? you have you tried shutting down. turn off PSU. unplug power cord. remove all your RAM and GPU. clear CMOS. press power button for 1min. put them all back in. and boot.

I haven’t tried clearings my cmos but I have tried removing gpu and memory while the board is clear of power and then reinstalling it and that didn’t do anything. Would I still have to clear my cmos even if it’s a New mobo

The specs say that motherboard supports 1600 ram. That's probably why it worked. If by 'compatible' you mean on the memory support list, that's memory that they officially sanction. Other memory can still work.

As to your problem, it's tough to say. The fact you bought memory without knowing what you were buying, that you tightened screws tighter to fix a noise, that you're using a radiator, that you forgot(!) to put the memory back in...this all leads me to think there are sorts of potential problems with this computer.

Since the problem didn't start until you were messing with the screws, have you considered it might be related to your cooling? Even switching motherboards you were still using the same cooling right?

I checked the specs of my mobo before I bought the memory to make sure that it would accept 1600mhz because I upgraded from 8gb of adata xpg 1886mhz. By not compatible I mean as in not listed on asrock website as officially approved and tested. Now the tightening screws was because the radiator fan for the CPU cooling had come loose and started making a terrible rattling sound that was fixed by tightening the screws. I don’t think it’s a cooling issue because radiator is dust free I clean I clean it regularly, and the fan is still fully functional, but not only that the actual cooling apparatus that attaches to the cpu is still intact and functional considering I had to remove it to reseat the cpu in the new mobo. I was trying to run memtest86 or prime95 but my computer wouldn’t stay running long enough to download and transfer it onto a drive or burn a cd. Now the forgetting the memory when I booted the computer was just me being forgetful really no excuse for that other than I was in a hurry to fix the fan noise so I could get back to pubg. I did not build this pc tho I bought it from a friend and have been slowly upgrading the hardware to handle rust and the likes
*also while the computer still booted I was able to check the event logs and found that it was giving me
kernel power
Volmgr classic
Service control manager classic
DistributedCOM classic
DNS client events 268435456
Eventlog service availability
WLAN auto config
