I just got a new TV, an LG 60UF8500.

I have an ATI Radeon R9 290X. Here is a link to the video card I bought:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TYF8N6K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00

The TV is a 240hz tv, but it appears that the 240hz is meaningless because the computer will only give a 60hz signal, Is that correct?

Regardless, I plug in my TV through the HDMI port, into the video card. It works fine.

However, when I log into my computer using Google Chrome Remote Desktop, it does not detect that I even have a monitor at all. In the sound playback settings, I see the LG tv, but it says Not Plugged In. In thd device manager, there is not even a Monitor option.

When I go into ATI Catalyst Control Center, there is no option there either.

I know that if I go home, I will turn the TV on and the computer will immediately detect the monitor, but I should be able to acces it through remote desktop properly. When I do access it, it is in 640x480 resolution and like I said, no monitor is detected at all.

I previously had a 42 inch Sony Bravia as my monitor and it worked fine. It did not say it was unplugged just because the tv was off.

I tried to find specific drivers for my TV, but they do not exist.

Please let me know what you think.

What are you trying to do here?

Your monitor/television should indeed remain off when the device is being accessed remotely. Even if it did turn off it would say "this machine is currently locked by xxxxx"

Elaborate on your desired result and purpose.

The result is that I want to be able to access my computer using Google Chrome Remote Desktop with a normal resolution. As it stands right now, it is only viewable in 640 x 480. It shouldn't reflect like the monitor is unplugged. I definitely want it off during the day. I only need to be able to access it and use it through remote desktop.

This is not a remote desktop settings. My computer is not detecting any monitor at all. It should detect the monitor even when the monitor is off, right? That is the problem I need to fix. I think by addressing that, it would fix the other issue.

I believe fully that the remote desktop is behaving properly. Your PC can't detect a monitor that is unplugged, off, broken, or otherwise in any state other than on. Some monitors and televisions will go into "stand by" and then appear to turn on the instant the PC requests, but that is still "on". It is also completely unrelated to remote access.

The resolution of the remote computer has absolutely no bearing on what the local computer will see when it connects.

Check your settings, set the resolution manually, or select a "fit to screen" setting.

I agree. The remote desktop is fine. The issue is that it doesn't detect the monitor while it is off.

However, my 42 inch sony bravia could be detected while off. All my other monitors can be detected while off.

It sounds like you agree that the likely issue is that when this particular LG tv is turned off, it cannot be detected. The problem is with my TV I guess.

Are we on the same page? I'm not sure. When I go into Device Manager, there is no Monitor detected. If I log into any other computer that I have through remote desktop, even with the monitor off, it still detects that it is plugged in.

No, not same page.
An off TV cannot be detected.
A monitor in standby is what you were seeing before, yeah the TV's are different in their behavior, the fact is... either way it is unrelated, and is setting in remote desktop.

Unfortunately you are unwilling to actually dig through settings to fix this problem.
On top of that this thread already has numerous responses and will likely not be given any attention by another person. That said, if you still truly believe this isn't a setting, which it is, you should create a new post.

I understand you didn't do anything but change monitors, however there are settings, i'm assuming you left them at their defaults. Change the defaults. Something has happened to the default settings in remote desktop and need to be changed.

You're very focused on this missing monitor, but that has nothing to do with your problem. Most remote desktops don't have monitors AT ALL and are more than capable of pushing 1440p and beyond remotely, without having a monitor, let a lone having a monitor detected.

Again check your settings. If not create a new post and i will leave it at 0 so others respond.

I have checked the settings on remote desktop. There are only two. Resize Desktop to fit and Shrink to fit. Neither works.

I have searched Toms Hardware for other posts, but nothing came up that was even close to this problem. Every else's problem relates to two monitors.

In Windows 10, I right click on the screen and choose Display Settings, there are three options:

1) Change the size of text, apps and other items: - this is set on 100% and I cannot change it.

2) Orientation

3) Advanced display settings

If I click Advanced Display Settings, I see resolution at 640 x 480 and it is grayed out, I cannot change it at all.

At the bottom, I see Display Adapter Properties. I click that.

Here, it lists the adapter and everything else. Under the Monitor tab, it says Default Monitor and the properties is grayed out. Normally, this would say Plug and Play Monitor.

Are there more settings I am missing? Thank you for your patience.

@ Highwonder

I have a similar LG 4K TV. The 49UF6430

THE PROBLEM:
I am also having issues. It appears these particular LG TVs are not detectable by the PC when they are powered off.
As far as I can tell, Our LG TVs do not output any link signal over HDMI while powered off.

So in essence when you turn the TV off the PC thinks you just unplugged it. Now if you have multiple displays it's annoying as items shift around. But if you have very complicated multi monitor setups like me...

2 way SLI / 4 Displays 3 configured for Surround Physx @ 5740 X1080 and the 4th is my LG 4k @ 3840X2160

SLI settings get screwed up, everything loses it's mind and my computer stays busy trying to figure out the changes flashing on and off. It's a NIGHTMARE!!

WORKAROUND:
I have scoured the LG TV's various settings menus for a way to address this and the closest workaround I found was "Screen Off" mode.

- Using your LG TV Remote go to .. Settings-->Advanced Settings-->Picture-->Energy Saving- Then select "Screen Off"
VIDEO TUTORIAL HERE BY SOME GUY

This will turn off your TV's display but it is still fully detectable in Windows, and also still allows sound output/pass thru.

Hit a button on the remote to turn the display back on. etc..
Not ideal but it at least saves our screens.

Hope This Helped!
