Computer not picking up Ethernet Cable

I use my computer every day and never have a problem with my wired connection. But recently, i got back from a friends and my computer i not picking up the wired cable connection. I know that its not the cable, or the router because the same cable works on my laptop, meaning it must be something with my desktop. I tried re-installing my MB drivers and network adapter. But I don't even know if its hardware or software related.
Please help!!!

Your adapter is more than likely the culprit . They do go out. See if you can borrow one. Or Buy one . It is always good ro have an extra.

The thing is, only my desktop has issues with my ethernet cable.
