So i recently decided to build a new rig, but it's been 10+ years since i've built one, so i'm a little rusty.

The specs are:
MSI z370-a pro
I5-9600k
G.skill Aegis 8gb x 2
EVGA geforce gtx 1060 3gb

Now, i did not realize at the time of purchasing the mobo that it is compatible with 9th gen cpu's, but only with a bios update. When finally getting and putting together the parts, it did not post, so i found the cheapest 1151 cpu i could find (celeron g4900), switched out the cpu, which allowed me to post and update the bios).

However, after switching back to the i5-9600k, it does not post and i get flashing lights back and fourth between the cpu and dram debug lights. I've tried reseating the cpu and heat sink a couple of times, there seems to be no bent pins on the cpu socket, i've tried each ram slot (both with 1 stick and 2), cleared the cmos and rechecked every power connection i can find. Still the same result.

So i decided to switch back to the celeron cpu just to see if it would post, and now i get a solid debug light with the cpu.

I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?
