Computer only has a DVI-D port, but I need to connect a VGA monitor

TL;DR: My computer has a DVI-D port. My monitor is a VGA port only. How do I connect the two, in any way?

Longer version: Feeling a little scammed by iBUYPOWER. I bought a desktop from them that had a case that said it was a DVI display with no picture of the back. I bought it, assuming that if I bought a DVI-I to VGA adapter it would work fine. However, the port is a dvi-D and not a DVI-I. I did more research and saw that a DVI-D to VGA doesn't exist except under "certain circumstances". So how do I connect the VGA monitor to the DVI-D port?

What model is the motherboard and/or graphics card? I can't think of any desktop that could have only a DVI-D port, except for the really tiny net-tops or thin clients, which I don't think they make.

Although, if you have a VGA-only display, it may be near time to upgrade anyway.

The motherboard (Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 -- 1x PCIe 3.0 x16, 4x SATA 6Gb/s, 2x USB 3.0-) does not have the 4 analog pins in the back, which are needed for me to connect the adapter I bought into the back; otherwise, it would go in fine. Based on what I found, unless I'm missing something really dumb, a port without those 4 pins is a DVI-D, which is wht I need.

The VGA display is what I'm planning to use for browser windows, skype, etc. while the other is used for playing games. However I can't afford a new monitor yet that I would like and so I need to use this until then.

After doing more research I realize that it was my fault, mostly due that I had no idea how DVI ports worked, and now I know much more. However, I'm still in need of a way to convert the signal (because I'm quite sure it's possible somehow) because I'm definitely not going to send it back and then get a new motherboard in it, and wait for two weeks.

You realise that board has a VGA port, right?

I don't think anyone makes motherboards or GPUs capable of outputting more than one VGA signal any more. There's simply not the market for it.

But the video card only has dvi support, sorrh i forgot to mention. I was focjsed on connecting them snd forgot that.

Edit: i only need one vga signal, by the way, unless you are saying something i dont see.

Then can you post the model of the video card?

You may be able to enable the on-board graphics and the dedicated GPU simultaneously in your BIOS - look for a setting called something like 'Graphics Adapter' and select 'Both' instead of 'PCIE' or 'PEG'.

That GPU has a DVI-I port. You should be able to use a passive DVI-VGA adapter for that.

What are your screens?

These are what i was thinking about but reviews scared me. It said that dvi-d to vga adapters do not work, unless they are a spexific kind like i mentioned in my first post. So are you sure that those actually work like it says they shoild?

Yes. But that port on the GPU is a DVI-I port and will work.

Please post a list of all the monitors you have, and what connections they have. Also, all relevant cables or adapters you have now. We're going round in circles here.

Take DVI-I to VGA adaptor. Connect to GPU. Take VGA cable. Connect to display and DVI-I/VGA adapter.

My only monitor is an envision monitor thst i cwnnot find a link to. It has one vga port.
My gpu supports dvi-i, displayport and hdmi, the latter are not relevant here.
My cable is a vga to vga, and i have an adapter that is dvi male to vga female.

When you say connect to gpu, are you saying to plug it into the back of the computer or somewhere else? If its someehere else, then where do i plug it in? I have no experience with this as the computer i owned before had the monitor cable plugin to the back, and im not sure if thats what uou mean or not when you say plug it in to the gpu.

OK, see your GPU? The metal part of it should be sticking out the back of the case and have ports on it. You want that DVI port. Not the DVI port further up the case next to the VGA port and your USB ports. Plug the DVI-VGA adapter in there.

I cant believe I didn't see what I should've been doing sooner. I was used to plugging in my monitors cable into the area where the speakers, etc. go into, but then you helped me realize I was plugging it into the motherboard which was what my old computer did, ut this one has a real video card.
