Question Laptop only starts after changing the RAM sticks setup ?

Hi,

I wanted to upgrade my RAM and now my system only starts when:
1) I move 1 RAM stick to the other slot (I have only 2 slots)
2) I remove 1 of 2 RAM sticks
3) I add the second of 2 RAM sticks
4) I replace both RAM sticks with others

If I make no changes to the current setup after shutting down and before powering up, the SDD is checked for 1s after pressing the power button and the laptop does not start. Nothing happens. After 1s the screen remains black and no startup. If I make the change, laptop startsup normal and runs 100% perfectly fine without any issue.

What I already did:
1) checked with the old and the new RAM in any combination. Same result.
2) Did a hardware check of the RAM. all perfectly fine.
3) I removed power, removed the laptop battery, removed the CMOS battery and pressed the power button for 1min. Issue still exists.
4) I tried to do a BIOS upgrade, but that fails. Somehow does not work. As the laptop runs with the old and new RAM without any issue if I change the setup, I am not sure here lays the issue
5) I reseatted the RAM many times. There is no dust or dirt. The 2 old and 2 new sticks work perfectly fine.
6) There are no BIOS settings for the RAM. There is no overclocking possible. I did not do any changes to my Windows installation. I just replaced the old RAM with the new one and since then the issue persists.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

If your system works with old rams but not the one's you got later, then your platform doesn't like the new rams. If you're mixing and matching, then that's also part of your problem. Work with ram kits.

Please mention the make, model and SKU for your laptop. BIOS version for your laptop at this moment of time?

If your system works with old rams but not the one's you got later, then your platform doesn't like the new rams. If you're mixing and matching, then that's also part of your problem. Work with ram kits.

Laptop runs with old and new RAM fine. Does not restart without changing the setup (independent of old or new RAM)

Please mention the make, model and SKU for your laptop. BIOS version for your laptop at this moment of time?

DELL Inspiron 7720. Running V12. Latest BIOS is V17. Tried to upgrade many times without success

I don´t think it is much related to the laptop or specific RAM.

Did I miss to do anything?
