I built a system last May (2011) and it worked great, at first. Then it started randomly crashing in July. RMA'ed the Motherboard and it seemed to fix the problem. Then in October, same issue. Crash randomly, but rarely would i see a BSOD. I again sent the motherboard in to get "fixed" and reinstalled it. After about 2 more months, the computer began to crash again, so I started to look elsewhere for problems.

System Specs:
Asus Sabertooth x58 motherboard
Intel core i7-960 CPU
Corsair Vengence DDR3-1600 Ram (2x 4GB sticks)
Segate hybrid 500GB HDD(OS)
WD Caviar Green 2TB HDD (Data)
GTX 480 GPU
Kingpin LZ-1000 1000W power supply
Antec 1200 case

I have done a fresh install of Windows, onto a different HDD, gives same results, eliminating the HDD.
I have swapped my GTX 480 with a friend's GTX 465, same issue, not GPU
I assume the motherboard is good at this point, and have no reason to suspect it again
I think it is RAM, but after running Memtest for 27 hours it is not ram, but after reading how it can miss things I am not convinced.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

What would be the best way to get a refund for the PSU, since that seems to be the issue? Also, is the mobo dead or is it alright? The computer is fine when I put in an ancient PCI GPU.

Can a moderator move this to the PSU forum, since that seems to be a more appropriate spot.

Good luck with getting a refund on a year old PSU. You're in the right place.

IMO get yourself a good Corsair 750W~850W based upon your specs above; PSU Sizer - http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power Here's some of my favs - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007657%20600014026&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=58%7C17-139-011%5E17-139-011-TS%2C17-151-102%5E17-151-102-TS%2C17-139-015%5E17-139-015-TS%2C17-139-034%5E17-139-034-TS%2C17-151-110%5E17-151-110-TS My favorites include: Coresair, SeaSonic, and Enermax.

I was looking at this Antec PSU. Yes I have the Antec 1200 so it will fit in my case. I realize that this is overkill, but I really want to leave my options open for the future. Do you think that the motherboard is still ok?

I'm personally not an Antec fanboy after a couple destroyed (2) expensive GPU's, but that was years ago and I know their quality has gone up. I've used the (3) I've listed above and to 'me' a PSU, as you're finding out, isn't a place to skimp.

+$54 for peace of mind for the Corsair HX1050 is a no brainier (3 or less pizza's).

/edit suggestion - RMA the current PSU and eBay as a newly replaced PSU...
