Hello everyone,

I've got quite some troubles with Netflix. I can watch videos, but after some time my computer will freeze, shut down and then restart.

So, here is some more information:

- PC desktop I built a month ago, never had a single issue until now
- Windows 10
- 8Gb RAM
- NVidia GTX 970 (drivers up-to-date)

I also use this desktop to play, sometimes on highly demanding games (Star Citizen, Rise of the Tomb Rider) and I have never had this kind of issue. It seems it only happens on Netflix but I fail to understand why.

If you have any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them!

My first thought was either temperature related, or some kind of problem with sustained 100% CPU useage, but I'm assuming you have a somewhat decent CPU?

It's really strange that it only seems to happen with Netflix and yet gaming you're fine with - seems to rule out temps and CPU useage then.

What resolution are you watching Netflix in? Have you tried lowering the resolution? Not suggesting that as a long-term fix, but if it's only happening at certain (higher?) resolutions, it helps narrow it down a bit.

No bluescreen. The screen turns to grey and the sound stutters then freezes. Then the computer either stays frozen (until I shut it down manually) or restarts on its own.

I can't see any "minidump" folder in the windows directory.

Yeah I've got a i5-6500 and with a dedicated cooler mounted on it (Be Quiet Pure Rock, not the standard CPU fan from intel). As you said it's strange as I've got no problem when gaming and every component seems to be working the way it's meant to except for Netflix.

I am watching Netflix with auto-settings for quality and I guess at 1080p as it's my monitor resolution. I'm new to Netflix so I don't know if we can specifically choose the resolution.

PS: I tried with Microsoft Edge and (apparently) got no troubles, it's yet to be confirmed as freezes can sometimes happen after over an hour, but I'll check that. It would be weird that freezes happen on both Mozilla and Chrome but not on Edge (well if it does I'll just use Edge for Netflix).

So, I'll have to double-check if Edge can be the solution. In the mean time if you have any more ideas, feel free to share them! Thanks for the help and I'll keep you guys updated.
