I've been having this problem with my PC where it will shut down during gameplay. Not any particular part during gameplay either. I recently changed the heatsink and cpu fan and put new thermal paste. My cpu temps went from 180+ to around 120 which is good. But apparently overheating isnt the problem because it's still doing it. I hear a fan making a buzzing/humming type noise when im not even playing a game. So maybe it's the power supply not being able to handle the other components?
EDIT: If it is the power supply, could the fan that I'm hearing be the power supply fan?

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 3.50GHz

RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz

MOBO: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z97-P (SOCKET 1150)

GPU: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (EVGA)

STORAGE: 111GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB (SSD)
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1ER162 (SATA)

PSU: Corsair CX 600W

Your temps went from a little over 80'C to under 50'C? Under what tests? That's a crazy imprvoement, so either your original cooler wasn't seated properly, or you have fairly poor airflow in your case.

So, it doesn't sound like the CPU is overheating, but how about the GPU? What are you using to monitor?

It could be the PSU, the Cx line aren't the best, and problems (very similar to your experience) have occurred.

An understanding of the temps (what you used to monitor, and any test/game you were running to guage temps) would be the place to start, then look to the PSU.

Yeap, I would guess the PSU as well - if you have a voltmeter, plug it in (monitor the 12V line) and load a game or something to load the system. If the voltage flactuates more that 15% that could be your issue.

Sorry for down voting your reply I didnt mean to lol. You actually helped out a lot and I appreciate that.

No worries. Have you been able to check your GPU temps? That's a good place to start. In gaming, just because your CPU is sufficiently cool, doesn't mean your GPU is.

GPU temps & removing/reinstalling your GPU drivers would be the 'easy' places to start. Testing &.or replacing a PSU will likely cost, so better to rule out/in the 'free' (other than time spent) options first.

My GPU stays around 176 F when playing the witcher 3. I went through a cutscene and regular gameplay and it maxed 176 F.
