Alright, so I had reinstalled windows, and installed all my games all over again, and drivers after getting my new hard drive. I start playing games like Assetto Corsa and The Crew with my Logitech G27. I'm enjoying playing and randomly my computer turns off and my fans and everything are still on. It takes a couple seconds and then my whole computer turns off. I turn my computer back on and I have no blue screen. I went into event viewer and I got an error code 6008 for my computer randomly shutting down. I'm not sure what happened, and it keeps happening around 5 minutes into playing. I'm pretty sure it's not overheating because I stuck my hand behind the exhaust fan and i'm getting cool air when it randomly shuts down. My GPU and CPU can handle the games, so I have no clue what is going on. Anything helps!

Solution
Event ID 6008 entries indicate that there was an unexpected shutdown.

Critical thermal event indicates that the problem is related to one of your hardware components not functioning properly that is triggering the computer to shut down.

Check if your CPU is overheating. Also check if the heat sink or fan is functioning properly. If the laptop is under warranty, get in touch with the manufacturer.

If it isn’t, get a good cleaning done for the fan and heat sink with compressed air only if you’re comfortable. Otherwise seek the help of a technician.

In addition, since power supply plays a major role in cooling the computer’s innards check if PSU (Power Supply Unit) is functioning properly.

Other thermal events (depending on your board) can be from the graphics card, bridge chipsets or hard drives.

You may opt to check for third party Thermal Event Monitor software so that you have a brief idea as in what’s triggering the critical thermal event.

Solution

I have custom water cooling on the cpu and gpu. It's a desktop btw. Did I put too much thermal paste on the processor or gpu by any chance? I cleaned out my loop when I put a new mobo in, and got new thermal paste.

I have a feeling it's because I have too much thermal paste on the processor or gpu. It's a pain in the ass to take apart, but if you think that's it then i'll work on my computer first thing tomorrow.
