So I will try to be as detailed but concise as I can:
My computer is a Cyberpower PC Fangbook, maybe 2 years old, that has the following components:
GPU: GTX 970m
CPU: Intel (r) Core (TM) i7 4810MQ 2.8 GHZ
Memory:16 GB
AC Adapter: 100-240V input, 19.5V output
Storage: Sandisk SDSSDP128G, ST2000LM015-2E8174
Norton antivirus software
Up until about three or four months ago, the computer was functioning close to perfect. I then begun experiencing issues with the battery not charging, or at least the computer would say that it wasn't. Sometimes it was true, sometimes it wasn't. Anyway, I spoke with the tech people at Cyberpower and they said that based on what I was experiencing, they felt that replacing the port into which the AC adapter plugs should be replaced. It was only a few bucks so I went for it. Unfortunately, they did not indicate to me how difficult a swap this was going to be. As a result I never replaced it The computer started working a little bit better however; the battery was continuing to charge sometimes and the computer could be unplugged and not shut down.
Secondarily, I started noticing that I was having a lot of problems with opening up programs and having them crash. I ran some diagnostic testing on my storage and found significant corruption to my hard drive. This drive did not carry my operating system. About a a week ago I opened my lap top up and swapped out the stock HDD for the other one I listed. I started using the computer and the problems with opening up programs and crashing does not exist any longer. However, I am now having more frequent problems with random computer shutdowns while it is plugged in. The computer definitely tends to shut down more often when it is under more stress, such as while I am playing a graphically intensive game.
My questions are the following:
How should I best diagnose this issue? Does this sound like an issue with my power sources and / or associated ports / ancillary piece? Does it sound like an overheating issue / CPU problem? Could it be a combination? Thanks for reading and for any assistance you can offer.
Jeff
