Hello!

Recently I went about updating nearly every component in my PC. Everything was working fine for a while, but recently I've noticed that my computer will randomly turn itself on. It used to be once in a blue moon where I'd come home from work and my PC was on, but as of yesterday it's started to do it about every hour. I'll shut down normally, lay in bed, then a short while later my PC will come to life and boot normally. I've read some messages saying it could be the CMOS battery, but the board is fairly new (less than 6 months old). Does anyone know what this could be?

Specs:
MB: Aorus Master Z590
CPU: i7 11700K
GPU: 4070
64GB RAM
750 watt Corsair PSU

1) Are you fully shutting it down when you aren't using it or putting it to sleep?
2) There are things such as Wake on LAN and the like that will wake a computer up if a packet is sent to it from across a network, etc. There are also some devices like HDDs that do this by pinging the host device. Are you using anything like this?

1. I am selecting "shut down" every time.

2. Not that I'm aware of, but is there anything I can do to prevent that?

It's not really anything to prevent. Go into Device Manager, right-click your network connections, choose Properties. Look for the Power Management tab. Uncheck both boxes and then click Apply. You can do this for each network adapter as well as all the usb ports too.

Yeah it wasn't too hard to disable and it seems to have done the trick, went the whole night without powering on. If it happens again I'll let you know but for now disabling Wake on Lan for my Ethernet adapter seems to have done it! (Specifically it was the "wake on magic packet" option)

Yeah most LANs consist of a keep alive packet that will trigger it and do funny things.

Might be a program doing it then. AV is prone to doing that and I've even seen a printer do it a few years back.
I can't think of what it could be though... I just resent my PC lately and don't have much installed other than some Steam games.

Again, it's not doing it nearly as often as when I first posted. Seems to be once every few days.

Do you have Steam set to automatically launch when Windows starts? Steam can force a computer on to update if it's simply been put to sleep. Mine did it for the longest time and it took FOREVER to figure out exactly what is was. This was probably 10 years ago when we used to use a site called Pacs Portal (doesn't exist anymore) that would tell you what each particular startup program was by searching for it. Talk about time consuming...
