So, yesterday my computer shut off without warning and upon trying to reboot it, the computer kept shutting off and on until I pulled the power cord.

So I tried testing it for problems and the graphics card and RAM had no effect. I tried the paper clip method for my PSU and it worked fine, powering all the fans in my case (including water cooler radiator). I also tried resetting my BIOS, but that did not change anything either. The connections across the motherboard seem fine and there are no coords on the back of it (as well as having a good separation between the board and the case).

Every time it tries to boot up, it makes a distinct clicking sound. All of my fans temporarily turn on and even the LED on the CPU's water cooler stays on.

I have tried a few guides and other posts for help but it didn't do much past 1 boot and a crash a few hours later.

From what I've narrowed down, it looks to be either the CPU or the motherboard. I've also had this very setup for about a year and a half with little to no problems

Any troubleshooting thoughts?

SPECS:
Intel i7 4790k
AMD R9 270x (2x)
Gskill SCorsairAM (8x2 GB)
Corsair HX750
Thermaltake Water Cooler
ASRock z97 Extreme 3

Thanks in advance.

Remove the poweron_Sw connector from the motherbds front panel header. Momentarily jumper the two poweron_sw pins on the motherbd just long enough for the PSU to power up (i use tweezers) . If it stays powered up fine now then your switch on the case is shorted.

If its still acts up, pull the reset_sw from the motherbd. If its fine now then it the reset switch thats shorted.
