Hi All,

I've got about an 8 year old computer I use as my HTPC which just started randomly rebooting. When it does randomly reboot, it typically does it within the first 90 mins of booting. Typically it's sooner to the first startup than later (so closer to the first 20mins). It does not always do this, only a few times a week now.

History: I updated the bios which was quite out of date and reinstalled Win 10, as it was running slow and had previously only been updated from Windows 8.1. It started this rebooting shortly after this, I do not know if it is related.

I noticed I forgot to reset RAM timings after flashing the latest bios, and this has greatly reduced the frequency of it rebooting.

Things I've tried:
  1. Set Bios to turn off automatic restarts after power loss, that did nothing.
  2. Set Windows to turn off automatic restarts if failure, that did nothing.
  3. Event Viewer shows kernel power loss with Event ID41, I've monitored this and there seems to be nothing that leads up to this
  4. I've ran prime95 and it does not seem to produce errors (it did when the ram timings were wrong)
  5. I've changed power options in Windows to high performance
  6. I've reinstalled the graphics driver
  7. I tried upping the CPU voltage to spec instead of letting bios managing it
  8. Reseating the CPU and new thermal paste (temps are ok though, doesnt seem to go above 40 C)
  9. I tried running all fans at full speed in the bios instead of using the Asus Qfan
  10. Blowing out all dust and cleaning everything
Asus F2A85M-Pro
AMD A10 5800k
No GPU, using the onboard chip from the APU
1 old spinning disc HDD
2x4GB Patriot PV38G186C9K sticks DDR3
Windows 10 x64
3 fans in this case, all running ok
Not sure on the PSU honestly, this is my first thing to swap out but I need to find one to borrow

Well I installed a SSD and reinstalled Win 10 Pro again. I tried upping voltage on the RAM, as well as reducing the speed and slowing the timings as well. Still having the issue. Can no one point me in the right direction? The only thing I can think of left to do is revert to an older bios, but it won't let me go back from my 6xxx series bios number to a 5xxx bios.

When you say you installed windows 10 you formatted the drive and installed it clean correct? And after this I would suggest clearing your CMOS don’t monkey with the timings and see if it stabilizes the system

Set the CMOS back to factory standard or optimal defaults

Also make sure you’re not having thermal issues that are causing the reboots

Yes, clean install on a formatted SSD, use to have an old spin disc. I tried clearing the CMOS before to no success, I've replaced the battery as well. I can try resetting CMOS again, but I'd be surprised if it helps.

Well then we might be looking at a thermal issue can you get HWinfo and start looking at your temperatures

Fan 2 753 RPM [0x2F1] (AUXFANIN0)
Fan 3 794 RPM [0x31A] (AUXFANIN1)

I believe Temp 3 and 8 are calculated, all others are ok.

Considering I've run the same cooling for years on this computer, I have hard time believing it is temperatures. I refreshed the thermal paste as well on the CPU.
