Hey to all of you beautiful people out there,
I have set up a pretty basic computer for my mother, but she has been complaining a few times about a power problem, that it simply dont react when she pushes the powerbutton sometimes.
I've witnessed and done a lot of testing of the problem and it seems to be persisting for a longer period of time and then suddenly it just works again untill it dont.
Of the tests I determined that it could be a loose connection between the powerbutton wire down to the motherboard, but with a resent test, I'm in doubt again.
What I have done:
First time when it happend and I witnessed it personally, I decided to hardwire the PSU 24pin to see if it would start the PSU, it did and it worked so I determined that the problem wasnt there.
I connected it back into the PC and problem still persisted, so again I determined that the PSU probably wasnt the problem. However after a short while it started working again.
Second time, I went down, it was late in the night, I tried to move the cables up, down, side to side to see if there was anything to notice as I clicked the powerbutton, but nothing. I went to sleep and both me and my mother forgot about the problem (since shes not all that often on the PC) and then when she got back on the PC she thought I had fixxed it because it just magically started working again.
Now it's third time I witness the problem and I decided to go for a third test which is the old screwdriver to the powerbutton pins on the motherboard and my previous tests made me think it was the powerbutton, but when I put the screwdriver on the pins I expected the computer to start up, but it didnt.
My conclusion so far is that it MUST be the motherboard or the PSU, but is it even possible for the motherboard to have a loose connection that just sometimes work and doesnt?
Please let me know what you guys think/know about this kind of situation and what I could possibly do to fix it. I would very much thank You in advance, if you have read this much and if you got a possible solution or test I could do.
