i know i wrote subnautica but to be honest i haven't checked with other heavy detailed games yet since i updated my mobo and the processor.
the computer sits on around 60 degrees while playing which is supposed to be fine as far as i know but every once in a while i get a freeze with the sound reverbing like you would get before a blue screen or just a restart out of no where with no error message.
the specs are:
i5 9600K
GTX 960
550W antec

if you need any further specification or want me to check anything to narrow down the problem please let me know, thanks a lot for the helpers up front!

p.s. i do play less heavy games for example rocket league with no problems at all.

update : fixed processor from 9590k to 9600k thanks for pointing out my mistake

Solution
Did you mean FX 9590? Or I5 9600k?
Did you also reinstall windows after changing the motherboard? This is a mandatory process, so it's advised you backup your files before doing so, as reinstalling windows wipes your C drive.

If you meant the FX 9590, it would most likely be the problem. That cpu was unstable from the get go, and few users are able to get it under control.

should i reinstall the windows even though it updated the drivers and everything seems to run smoothly besides this specific problem?

so as you said i re-fomatted my hard drive and installed all the right drivers with the supplied disc for the mobo the computer seems to run the game more smoothly but the problem persists, it crashed about 30 minutes into the game, and also just now it crashed while i was browsing through chrome with about 6 tabs open and nothing significant running in the background.

Reformatting your hard drive is not the same as reinstalling your operating system.
You must reinstall windows after changing the motherboard.

i havent messed with any overclocking. i ran memtest and got no errors at all and i changed my PSU from a 550W antec into a 650W cooler master (brand new), still got a restart while playing. and another one not long after while browsing through the internet.

Well, I'm just about out of ideas at this point...
No overclocks, passed memtest, it's not the psu...

All I have left is:
-is everything properly plugged in?
-the motherboard itself may be the problem
Perhaps someone else can chip in, but that's all I can come up with.

I'm dealing with instant restarts too, so I feel your pain. I have played over 200 hours of Subnautica and I did have problems with it here and there. The game has its bugs for sure. It was an early access game on steam. Many people blame Unity game engine for its problems, but I never joined in that debate. It does stress my CPU more than other games and I do get stuttering in certain places in the game world like the red kelp area, but I don't remember if a restart was a problem. Maybe a freeze.

My restarts began a couple of months ago and I'm still trying to figure it out. It may coincide with me starting on The Division. The PC is only a year old. I'm told that many things could cause this, but I'm now thinking that most likely it is a power issue. Someone pointed out BSOD issues with DX12 and I am investigating that. The Division has a setting where you can select either DX11 or DX12, so I'm testing it with 11 right now and I have 16+ hours gaming without a restart. If that doesn't work, I will try the following:
-Bump up all voltages one notch (one by one, to identify source of problem)
-Remove GPU over clock (Aftterburner OC scanner was used, Turing GPU)
-Look again for mobo/GPU/Windows firmware/software updates
-DDU/resinstall nVidia drivers
-Swap PSU
-Swap GPU
-Clean Reinstall Windows
-Swap mobo

Roughly in that order, so I'm going to try the easier stuff first. My build is a compact ITX-Mini so it is really a pain to work on the hardware. Anyway, if you haven't tried something on that list maybe it could help.

I forgot to mention that you can check for errors in Windows Event Viewer for clues about the sudden restart, but it won't always be helpful because of the PC's inability to log what actually happened at that moment. Maybe errors leading up to it might be helpful, though. I have some warnings and an error (forgot exactly what) that seems to be common and harmless and I can't pin down an exact cause, but the shutdown itself will usually show up in Event Viewer as Kernel-Power 41 Error which basically means an improper restart. Just type event viewer in the start menu and it will show up there.

its the same for me to be honest, on the event viewer i see the kernel-power, and a distributedCOM though the COM error shows up every few minutes so i doubt its relevant to the crash, more so i noticed that as of late i experience a little blink when i use my GPU as the display card whenever i go into full screen watching a video, once i change the from the GPU to the on board graphic core on the MOBO it doesn't seem to do that, i am assuming as of now that my GPU is having it's last months.
as of now i rolled back the driver version and the problem (at least the one with the blink when going to full screen) stopped, will update soon.

I'm really out of ideas iv'e switched everything in my computer besides the GPU, and i mean everything, MOBO CPU PSU and also the hard drive, still my problem presists.
is there an option it is caused by a near death GPU?
