Hello my dudes.
my friend just upgraded some computer parts.
this includes:
Intel 8700k
MSI Z370-A PRO motherboard
noctua NH-D15 cooler
2X8gb ddr4 ram from corsair

He's running this on a 650 watt power supply with only a 4-pin CPU power cable, and a msi gtx 970 witch he used before and ran good.

His system seems stable and the temps are good.
He can play games(csgo) with perfect results.
but when he quits the game after a session the computer goes black and restarts without any bsod.
So basically he reproduces this issue every time he plays a game and quits it. its consistent.

His CPU has Intel auto boost clock on to 4.4 GHz.
We haven't tested with 8 pin CPU power cable which might be the issue, and i'm thinking its that or a driver issue but we cant figure it out.

EDIT: he also have a BIOS update that the support page for his board don't list, that it came with(dated december 2017) https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z370-A-PRO#down-bios

EDIT2: also crashing when using VLC for movies

Solution
If that doesn't help, consider using the Intel integrated graphics by connecting your display to the motherboard video port. See if it crashes when a game is opened and closed.

My thoughts are that this is caused by a display driver malfunction.

We haven't tested any other games as of yet. He tried a round of PUBG but don't remember if it caused a shutdown. we've been all over this for hours so it's a bit tiring

Try updating your graphics card drivers, chipset drivers, and BIOS if you haven't already. It would be best to use DDU in safe mode for the nVIDIA driver for best results. Also if you did not reinstall Windows after moving to the new motherboard then that is another thing that can cause errors when one drive is moved to another PC.
