Computer running very slow - games keep stuttering and freezing

I'm really sick of this now. My computer is suddenly really, really slow. I've scanned and done everything and it still runs like absolute s***. I can't even play CS:GO or Payday 2 without worrying about crashing or whether it will even launch. All I get is freezing and stuttering. Also, not to mention that I need to wait about 30 minutes after turning on my PC to actually do anything without locking up, like opening Google Chrome. Please help me.

GTX 970
8GB RAM

I did recently upgrade my GPU from a 660 to a 970, if that matters.

Open up task manager and see what is using all of your resources. another good thing is to run msconfig and turn off anything you don't need at startup.

Did you uninstall your old 660 driver and install fresh drivers for the 970?

I had no option to uninstall the 660 drivers - I assumed it would remove them. I installed the drivers for the 970 fine.
