I have a Dell computer with two hard drives, I have one drive which is brand new and the other which has an old windows version. I inserted my windows disk, it runs through sees the hard drive then when the windows operating system starts it says no drives found. I went into CMD and tried formatting that way but it cant find them there either. I typed Diskpart> select disk <0> and it says not valid. any ideas.

Hey debmore. Is this your primary drive? Try typing it this way Diskpart> select disk 0, press enter and after that Diskpart> detail disk. Other than that I'd recommend that you try the drive with another computer either internally or externally with a SATA to USB cable to see if it's recognized. If you have any success, I'd suggest that you download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive to see if there are any issues with it.

Hope that helps.
