Hello ,

Alright, so ever since I woke up today my desktop has just been crashing, so I turned it off for a while and went to work. I came back around 7 hours later and to find the outlet power has been turned off (Like the lights and fan still worked but the outlets didn't) I went to my powerbox on the side of my house and attempted to switch it back on but it flicked back off. I unplugged my computer cords from the wall and it still didn't turn back on, so I turned the air con off and it turned back on. But now everytime I plug the power cord into the back of my computer it just shuts the whole power off again. I don't know what's wrong, it was working fine a couple of hours ago and now it's shorting out my power?

PC Specs:

Nvidia 960 4Gb (OC)
8 Gb Ram
Windows 10
1 TB HDD
i5 (cannot remember the exact one) 3.8Ghz
750W PSU

I've had this computer for almost 5 years without a problem, so what's wrong?
Is it because of the air con affecting the power, power-overload??? (The air con is back on and running fine aswel)

Really confused on this one,
I'll take any help, thanks!

disassemble it and check everything inside it

if you have another psu, it is time to test each component individually, remove gpu and try again, if possible with another psu

about your house wiring, does it happen often that you end with problems like this?

are you connecting directly to the wall socket or to a ups or to something like this?

Thanks for the fast reply!
I will try that now,

No, this rarely ever happens.
And yes, I have it plugged into a multi outlet thing, but the other devices like my monitors connected to the same thing works fine until I plugged the power into my PC and just shuts the power off.

then you are overloading that circuit on your house, did you added another device to the multioutlet recently?

those are good for one monitor, one pc like yours and the speakers, more than that represents 1000watts usually and it is enough form most circuits to do what you see there, especially if one of the devices is old and starting to act weird

After multiple times walking in the dark to turn on the power again, no luck.
I've taken my GPU, RAM out and still having the same issue.
I've changed the power cord aswel and still same result
I've unplugged the sata cables aswel
and I have even turned off my aircon and tried, null result.
I don't get it, it was fine couple hours ago without being touched and now it's dead?
Never added anything new, it was all the same. Has been for a couple of months now too.

added to the mutioutlet i mean

be sure to connect the pc to another wall socket, don't use more that multioutlet, when overloaded, i have seen some overheating and the soldering points inside them just detaching and cables getting loose

get a new psu to discard the psu itself, but i don't think it is that but is worth to try

while you disassemble the pc, check the mainboard itself, see if there is nothing wrong in it, nothing burned or that looks suspicious

I tried a different outlet, null result.
Looked in, I can't see anything nor smell anything either.
I do have another PSU, 2 in fact but both a very much older than my current one.
But the thing is, the switch on the back of the computer for the power, I switched it off but as soon as the AC cord gets plugged in I hear like a zap of power and bam goes the power again.?

with other psus?

then it is something in the mainboard, disasemble the pc completely, i mena, remove heatsink, cpu, ram, mainboard form the case, everyting

check cables, check mainboard in both sides, the front and the back

i think your problem is in the mainboard but you need to see it for yourself, i think it shorted out, i hope you only need a new mainboard, not cpu and ram too

repeat tests without anything connected, i mean, only ram, cpu, heatsink and mainboard connected to a psu, no hard disks, no cdroms, no extra fans other than the cpu fan, the bare minimum

or you discover a dead mainboard or a bad ram module

cpu could be dead but never seen one doing something like that, cpus are hard to kill

Okay,
So I did take the current PSU out, unplugged everything and all and plugged another one I had lying around.
I plugged that it just didn' turn on at all.
I then unplugged that one and put the old one back in and it doesn't shut off the power but the PC doesn't turn on all either.
I swear I plugged everything I unplugged back in and nothing.
Also, I unplugged this little pin things with "POWER SW", "HDD L.E.D" and "RESET" to the left where the GPU would sit. I did put them back in but not the same order as they were before, like for example before it was POWER SW in front and HDD LED in the back etc, I couldn't remember the exact order, don't know if that would affect it?

Those not being in the correct order will definitely affect the computer, as for the power issue you may be experiencing the outlet going faulty or the breaker that it's on is finally going out, I remember you said something about your main breaker and that sounds like an entirely different issue since you said with the i/o switch in the off position you still lose power as soon as it's plugged in, that sounds more like a grounding issue

Are you able to tell me which order or are they different on every computer?
So is my whole PC just dead?

Okay, The second PSU does work I was just an idiot and didn't turn the outlet on. I can the PC on and all the fan spins and that but the LEDS are not on?

pc working but not the leds?

try again connecting them in the other way, top to bottom or sides

so the psu itself died?

try to open it and give it a good clean, see if dust is doing the short, or just decide and dispose of it properly

if you can share with us a picture of the pins for the leds and for the power and sw button, we could help you find the right direction, what model of mainboard is?

Well, alright, Just wanted to thank everyone for helping.
Upon turning on the PC the second time, it exploded. 2 extremely loud bangs and sparks flying out, I'm highly sure it's fucked now. There goes 1200$ :/. Thanks for helping though!
