Computer shuts down after gaming for 5-10 minutes

After graphics intensive gaming for like 10 minutes, my computer shuts down for no discernible reason (I've tried Payday 2, Warframe, and Shadow Warrior). My GPU temps are just under 80°C (like one or two degrees), my CPU temps are <60°C, both under load after I cleaned the fans. I've reinstalled my graphics drivers. I have no idea what the problem is but a weird thing that happens is that i must manually disconnect power for about 30 seconds and wait for peripherals to shut down (like keyboard and mouse which have blinky lights that stop) or wait about 12 hours before I can start my computer again.

For a stock configuration your CPU is running rather hot have you checked inside the case for dust bunnies?

Yes, I cleaned my entire case and all fans to make sure it wasn't overheating, it dropped CPU temp by some 10-15 degrees and GPU dropped by about 5 degrees. 60 is the max it gets to under heavy gaming (before shutdown), is that really too hot? Most other mentions of upper comfortable limits on CPUs that I've found were something closer to 70°C.

AMD same as Intel will throttle back to control it's heat, the throttling I am referring to is built into the CPU and there's nothing you can do to get around it, except keep it cooler than reaching that point.

If the CPU throttles to protect itself and you're still seeing 60c gaming temperature, and it happens during a graphic intensive part of the game, it will overheat and shutdown, and you're baffled but you do not get to see the temperature it actually reached just before it happened.

I suggest you get yourself an after market cooler for the CPU even though you're not overclocking as your stock cooler is not doing it's job anymore.

I'm suggesting Old Faithful, which is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, plus you may need to take a look at improving your case airflow, because no air cooler can properly do it's job if it's starved for fresh air.

You can still snag a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ for 5 bucks cheaper, but I'd go with the EVO.

I actually already have that cooler (the 212 EVO) sitting on my desk next to me, along with a new case that has 3 times as many fans as my current case, I just haven't had any time to move to the new case. Im still not convinced that that is the problem though as I'm under that upper limit all the time and almost under the lower limit (just tested and was at 56c max under load, 54c was the average) and because this build has been running fine for 2+ years now, are there any other possible solutions?

Thermal compound dried out and useless, the AMD cooling fan bearing causing drag because it's wearing out and spinning but now like it did, etc.

So if you have a new cooler sitting there packaged with new thermal compound, and a new case, you don't really have a problem you couldn't have already solved!

My friend had this kind of problem and it got solved by turning on V-Sync, we did not figure out what was the problem but doing it seemed to fix it, he has the same GPU and CPU as yours, so mabe give it a go.
I think you guys are just looking at the problem the wrong way...
I may be very worng at my friend's problem is very rare but its better than nothing
