Computer shuts down whenever i plug in a usb device

My computer keeps shutting down everytime i plug in a usb stick or a wireless mouse etc...
this is only happening on the front panel on my computer case there are 2 usb sockets and the both have the same problem. i have read other forum posts with related problems but i have tried everything i dont know how to fix the problem.
i have just installed a new 500watt powersupply, but it had this problem with the old powersupply. i have installed everything in to a new case (zalman t4), i dont think it had this problem with the old case. how can i fix the problem???

In event viewer does it say anything about kernel power? I am wondering if you have a short in your USB socket which shorts out when a device is connected. Are you sure the front USB sockets are correctly plugged into the motherboard?

Agreed, this definitely sounds like a short condition. Make sure your front panel USB ports are clear from any obstructions/foreign objects. Also make sure you have the headers connected properly to your motherboard connections.

i just checked everything is plugged in correctly, how can i fix this issue?

It sounds like your front panel USB ports could be defective. If disconnected, do devices work properly when plugged into the ports connected directly to your motherboard (back panel)?

the only usb ports what dont work are the ports on the case, the usb ports on the motherbeord all work fine

Then you either have defective ports in your front panel, or an issue with the motherboard header itself. Any thing between the 2 ends could have been damaged in a short condition.

If you have another available USB header on your motherboard, you can try using it. Just be aware that if the front panel ports do have a short, you could damage the alternate header.

the motherbeord has 3 usb headers and the samething happens with each header, but this never happened with the old case i dont think.
but this problem only happens now and again it does not do this everytime
