Computer shuts off after split second when 8 pin connector is plugged in

As per the title. Just built a new rig, and when the 8 pin is disconnected, motherboard lights up fine, fans spin, GPU spins and watercooler’s working. Obviously get no signal though.

It’s just when the 8 pin CPU cable gets plugged in that it shuts off immediately after.

Is my CPU faulty? Something else? I’ve tried starting it with GPU, RAM and hard drive disconnected, also no luck.

i7 7700k
patriot 16gb ddr4 3000mhz
rog 370f motherboard
thermaltake 750w psu

Because that CPU is not supported. You have to use an 8th gen CPU with that board.

Well, that makes sense. I’m an idiot. Will return to store and hopefully that sorts everything out.

EDIT: hey thanks. Ive got everything up and running. lil embarassing oversight on my part, shouldve checked compatabilities way more closely.
