My computer shuts off at random times. I looked up why and found that it could've been multiple things. The Power supply, the fans, the CPU. I replaced the Power supply and tried replacing the fans. I couldn't replace the fans because I soon found out when I got them that they didn't come with a motex adapter. Plus instead of a standard 3 pin fan cable, it was a 4 pin. I'm genuinely confused there and tried finding 4 pin adapters but only found 3 pins. So I mean that's one issue. Anyway, I plugged in my old fans (that do make a clicking noise) and let it run with the new power supply, it powered up to the windows log in screen and shut off again. I got my dad to try and plug in my fans, he managed to plug in one. I'll edit how he did it when I ask him. So now, I have one Corsair fan and one of my old ones. (I'll find the original fan manufacturer, it was a pre-built computer so I'm not so sure on all the parts) The fans are https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LA0R2X6/ref=twister_B07796PMFR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I tried the fans again and it still won't get any further than maybe a minute. Next, I just started taking things out. I've sort of lost my patience at this point. Finally, I took out my CPU fan and the processor. IT RAN!!! It ran for a solid 40 minutes until I had to turn it off for a family emergency. After the family emergency was done and I was completely free of stress, I replaced the thermal paste and carefully put everything back in. It shut off...

Any help would be fantastic.

Solution

Are you trying to use Windows 10? Revision 1.2 of the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 motherboard does support Windows 10, but revisions 1.0 and 1.1 do not support Windows 10. They only support up to Windows 8. The revision number of your motherboard should be printed in the corner of the board itself.

I am using windows 10 and my motherboard is a Revision 1.2.

Despite the fact your motherboard officially supports Windows 10, i think that is your problem. The GA-78LMT-S2 is based on the AMD 760G chipset which was introduced in 2009 and Gigabyte has not updated the BIOS for this board since January of 2014. It's not realistic to expect Windows 10 to work flawlessly on this motherboard since the current Fall Creators Update is now the 3rd major update and the 4th major update is about to be released any week now. You would probably be better off running Windows 7 or 8 instead.

Thank you so much for your answers. So sorry I'm replying so late, I had to go out of town for a while. While going to downgrade, I saw that my computer was apparently at risk, as its out of date. I'm going to try updating to the most recent version of Windows 10. If that doesn't work, then I will downgrade. I've noticed something while running my computer though, When I turn the computer on, my CPU fan does not spin. It will stutter and just simply stop at times. Could this be the issue? If so, how do I fix it? (I cleaned it out of all dust)

If your CPU fan is not working properly that would definitely cause your computer to shut itself off due to overheating. When the computer is off, try manually turning the CPU fan. Does it spin freely or does it stick?

It sticks :(

That's the cause of your problems. Cleaning it may get it working properly again.

I've gone and ordered a replacement fan for the CPU. Since I already cleaned it off, I think it's a bearing issue.
EDIT- I got my replacement fan and tried running my computer. It has shut off again. I've tried to downgrade my PC but I don't have the option.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from headzone200 : "My computer shuts off. Help?"

My computer shuts off after about 5 minutes of being on. Before even saying my computer is outdated, I know. My computer is behind on many updates and many driver updates. It is because my computer won't stay on long enough for it to actually do anything.

Things I've tried:
-Replaced PSU
-Replaced CPU fan
-Replaced all 3 case fans
-Cleaned off the inside of all dust
-Tried to Downgrade to Windows 8.1 (Can't because computer fails to start)

Please help :(

1. Could you identify your video card? The link you provided does not work for me.
2. Can you identify your RAM? Brand and speed.
3. What hard drives do you have in your system? Are they old mechanical HDD's that may be failing?

1. My video card is a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080
2. Adata AD3U1600W4G11-B
Speed- 1600hz
3.My driver is a Toshiba DT01ACA100 ATA. http://www.driverscape.com/download/toshiba-dt01aca100-ata-device

Since you motherboard has integrated graphics i suggest removing the GTX 1080, enabling the onboard graphics in the BIOS and see if the computer runs without crashing. There may be a problem running this very modern powerful graphics card in such an old system. It's a very unusual combination.

* Init Display First
Specifes the frst initiation of the monitor display from the installed PCI graphics card, PCI Express
graphics card, or the onboard graphics.
- PCI Slot --- Sets the PCI graphics card as the first display. (Default)
- OnChipVGA --- Sets the onboard graphics as the first display.
- PEG --- Sets the PCI Express graphics card on the PCIEX16 slot as the first display.

I fixed it! I realize this is a bit late but I forgot about the forum in all honesty. I fixed it by getting my new power supply and turning it on eco-friendly mode. I think I surpassed the amount of Watts I had available and eco-friendly mode doesn't turn on my PSU's fan until needed. Have no idea if that was even worded correctly. I'm a computer amateur. Thank you so much for you're help!
