so i built my computer and it was great and all. but it started overheating and it took a while to get a heatsink. i bought a heatsink and installed it and after now it does not turn on for more then a second. i didnt have the money to fix it so i set it to the side and then i brought it out to geek squad after 4-6 months of waiting and it worked fine. there was a fan error. so i fixed the fan error and everything ran great for 24 hours, played games and watched youtube, then after that the problem is back. i dont know what to do and any info or help is much appreciated. i am also writing this from my girlfriends laptop and im not at my house.

Yup, looks like a bad PSU my friend. I would look into RMAing the one you have If under warranty) or buying a new one.

Take care.

yes i have. and cooler master high performance thermal compound. i will reset them again just in case. i applied a small dollop and used the set the heatsink ontop gently so that it would spread out evenly and thoroughly

A few more things to try IF you haven't already that is:

- Check the pins of the CPU and ensure not have been bent/broken and make sure that it is resting in the slot properly
- Perform deductive troubleshooting, start removing components one by one until you're left with only basic components (CPU, Mobo, PSU). I would like to see if you are able to get it past POST or at the very least throw a POST error (beep codes). If only the basic components are installed and there still aren't beeps, that makes me concerned about a short in the mobo. If you do hear the beeps, then consult your mobo's manual to determine the error.
- Speaking of codes, does your mobo have a code readout? Some manufacturers have a 2 digit hexadecimal code readout on the board.

Good luck my friend.

Sounds like either Mobo or PSU..maybe CPU?, I had this exact problem, my computer would work just fine and it was overheating due to a stock heat sink, so I replaced it with a new one and arctic silver, tried to boot, nothing the fans would spin and it would shutoff. So I took a shot in the dark and bought a new PSU. I also later used the paperclip method to test my old PSU yep dead... She's running strong now.

The good ole' paperclip method 😀

So I took everything butthe psu and mobo out and nothing. The fans dont spin and nothing starts up. I use the power button on the mobo and it stays lit when I have the power switch in the on position. There are no beeps. Is this most likely a mobo problem? What are suggestions?

That sounds like textbook bad PSU, I would RMA that..Or get it tested at a computer shop.
