Whenever I insert a usb contoller/gamepad, my laptop shutsdown imediatly.

A few months ago it could hold the controller for 10 minutes, then 5 minutes, then 2, and now it shutsdown imediatly.

The drivers on my pc are all updated

I've tried 3 gamepads/controllers
- The first and second were big and with no brand and they would shutdown the computer
- The 3rd one was a dualshock for ps3 (I used motionjoy) and it didn't shutdown the computer.

Do you think its the voltage or power delivered to the controller?

What is the reason for the laptop to shutdown, is it a short, is it hust preventing the motherboard to burn or something?

Do you think the motherboard is damaged?

Shoud I take the laptop to be fixed?

When you do this have you tried seeing if it does it when its plugged in to the out let or have you only tried with out on battery power? It sounds like the controller is trying to draw more voltage than what the laptop can provide. Have you tried plugging the controller in a desktop? Or any other computer for that matter...
I don't think it's the computers fault here...
If you are trying to take a normal console controller and use it on your laptop it won't work cuss the console controllers are wierd differently then a normal USB device. You can thank microsoft for that...
But you can buy a PC console controller and it should work just fine.

I have done the 2 cases, and in both, the laptop shutdowns.
But I agree with you, I think is the controller voltage (I've tried it on a PS3 and it said something about too much power voltage)
But it is the opposite of what u are saying, when I try a PC controller, it shutsdown. When I try a PS3 controller, it doesn't.
I guess I will just buy a cheap ps3 controller online, but the thing is I dont know the voltage and if it's going to work or not on my laptop

Hmm...
Well lets review some options. Option one take you laptop to a computer repair store preferably anywhere but best buy I don't care if you need to drive 50 miles just as long as its not best buy...-_-
Have them do a diagnostics check on the hardware and that will run you around 60 to 80$ if you take it to best buy...
But most places don't charge a dime for that...
If anything comes up then that's what you'll need to pay to get it fixed and they'll let you know what options are open at that point depending on the problem at hand.
I wont know what's wrong with you laptop till I run a diagnostic's check on it.
Make sure you tell them what your problem is when you take it in.

Just Google computer repair shops in WA tri-city area that's where I am but Google it for where ever you are.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you from here but it sounds like it may be some kind of hardware problem may be easy to fix or might need a new motherboard not sure...

Thanks for your time, but that seems to complicated and expensive, so I'll just buy a new controller online hoping i's low voltage.
I'll buy a new laptop soon so if it doesn't work on mine I can just play it on my future laptop..
Thanks again ;D
