Not sure if this is right subforum but i need a help with my computer.Issue is that he turns on,fans start running and everything but there is no display on monitor. After few mins computer uses beep code and shuts down.

To summarize :

1)there is no display on monitor

2)there is a beep code before shutdown ,two long then break then before shut down 1 long 1 short and it shuts down(motherboard is WinFast)

So i wonder how to diagnose problem, how to test it and which part to replace -power supply, memory or something else (god forbid its motherboard itself 😀 )

Solution
Look up your beep code on the motherboard support site. Try resetting the BIOS to default with the jumper on the motherboard, unplug the system from wall power, move the jumper to reset for a few seconds, check if it starts after that.

It may be a memory issue, maybe motherboard, maybe power supply, CPU, video card, probably a few other items. Looking up the beep code should help you.

Oh someone responded thanks!I will try what you said (didn't have time to commit to it,computer is older one that's used on my workplace) Dumb question but where can i get jumper, don't have one? According to beep codes it should be memory being corrupted ?

Some additional information ,its Phoenix Bios and once when it turned on it reported CMOS Checksum error before going down for a while .I appreciate any hints you can give me before i cave in and pay big money to technician to fix it :)

If you don't have a jumper on the BIOS reset pins, you need to get one, any computer that is trashed would have one you can grab. If it's an old system you may need a new CMOS battery.

If the beep codes indicate bad memory, try different RAM, if that does not work and you reset the BIOS, may be the RAM slots on the motherboard are bad.
