My computer will shut off completely and then restart

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 4820K
RAM: 4 x [DDR3] XPG-V2 8GB DDR3-1866
GPU: EVGA GTX780ti 3GB superclocked
PSU: Azza Dynamo 850W
Motherboard: ASUS P9X79

I know it is not a problem with the gpu because this is the second one I have tried and both times it has crashed. The temps on all the components seem fine(around 30-40 Celsius). This leads me to believe that it is the PSU. Any suggestions its driving me crazy not being able to play with my friends.

Solution

Hi...
I have had kind of the same experience. I had a PSU in use for 7 years. After a point, the PSU started not having enough power output for my system, especially in stressing/gaming scenarios. What happened to me was that the PC would start getting laggy for some time and then bluescreen+weird letters/numbers and then it would restart by itself. That was happening rarely but as time went on, I didn't give any though into it and let the PC restart so it started happening more often. In the end, I ended up friing my Mobo. I don't know if it's the same thing with you. What led me to find out it was my PSU failing was those numbers showing in the Windows bluescreen, are somewhere saved. With a little help from Google, I found them on my PC, found out what they meant, and it was not enough power in the cores of the CPU.

Does your system do the same windows bluescreen before it shuts down and restart or it just shuts down and restart?
In either case I would assume it's the PSU but you are not saying anything else other than it shuts down and restarts. Please do tell us more :)

I would try replacing the PSU, if it is faulty/ low quality or doesn't enough watts, though i know it probably isn't the latter, it can cause this problem.
My old PSU, which had a high enough wattage, kept frying itself because it was low quality and shut off and restarted my PC while playing graphically intensive games. I replaced the PSU with an Antec HCG-M series and ever since then, playing many graphically intensive games, not one shut off and restart was seen. It was over 5 months ago now. 😀

Hi thanks for the quick response. When my computer restarts it just completely turns off, no numbers, no bluescreen, and then turns back on like nothing happened. If it is any help I also sometimes here a ticking noise just before the computer restarts. I play two main games csgo and league of legends, and for some reason it never crashes when playing league, only csgo, not sure the reason but if it helps.

Thanks for the quick response :) I will look into a new power supply because the one I have currently is low quality. I was thinking of buying the "Corsair RM Series 850 Watt ATX/EPS 80PLUS Gold-Certified" any thoughts?

Hi again, sorry for the very late reply, but yes, that power supply is very high quality and it would fit great into any high-end gaming PC which doesn't need any more power than that. 😀
