Computer sleep issue

Sometimes when I sleep my computer, my computer doesn't actually sleep and my computer remains on. All I get is a computer that is still on and I can't control it because the display is turned off.

So basically when I try to sleep my computer, the computer is still on, but the display is turned off and I have to resort to holding down the power button and turn on my computer again, which is really annoying. Anyone know anything about this?

It should wake if you press the power button for a short time - two seconds maximum. Any longer will turn it off.
