The other day I replaced my GeForce 1060 3GB with a 1080. Almost as soon as I replaced it my computer seemed to have slowed down. Thinking it was drivers, I installed and ran DDU to get rid of the old drivers, however it still ran slow.

I did a complete wipe and reformat of my hard drive with a fresh install of Windows to see if something software wise had messed up. Still slow.

Finally I thought that maybe my old 520W PSU could’ve been the culprit, so today I replaced with with a 650W. With the 1080 the computer initially seemed to be running really quickly. However I tried playing WoW on 7 (which ran smoothly pre-1080) and it was chugging at 20 FPS.

Just to test it, I DDU’d and reinstalled the 1060, however the computer ran even slower and WoW crashes during the loading process. I’m out of ideas other than the motherboard and processor (which is a 1st gen i5). Does anyone have any ideas what happened when I put in the 1080?

Which Windows? You mentioned 7, does that mean Win7?

As above, what Nvidia driver version? The latest 397.31 has issues, more so for Win7.

Try the beta hotfix 397.55 driver or an older whql driver.
Maybe check for other hardware fault, run Memtest86 to check out your ram, check the SMART fields on your HDD's, and run Prime95 (small in place FFT's) to check out your CPU. If all that's ruled out, maybe try reloading windows. The video card should not slow down your computer at all.

Take your Cache and WTF folders, in the WoW folder, and move them to a different location. Start up WoW, and let it create new ones. This can often fix issues, after hardware changes.

That said, your gen 1 i5 is holding you back. An i5 750 is the minimum requirement for BfA. Also what make and model on those power supplies?
