i usually use my pc for work and for games like dota, heartstone and black desert, etc..
i run pretty much everything on mid to high end settings and never had a problem, but 4-5 days ago all of a sudden computer got extremely laggy. anything i do on my computer from opening a file to opening youtube front page, it was oddly slow. sometimes i even had to close the page after waiting like 30 seconds for it to load. so i figured it was going to be a virus or something. i scanned my pc, it was clean. then later that night while i was trying to restart the computer, windows wouldn't even start. it finally did start after a couple tries, so i backed up my files on an external and reinstalled windows all over again. even after going thru all the trouble of reinstalling drivers and stuff, the problem still remained which was sometimes the lag hit the computer and slowed everything down and other times it worked fine.

at this point, i figured the problem was with the hard drive. this was the hd test results:

thank you.

Solution
this happened to me once. the problem should most likely be related to the CPU or to the storage. For me.. we have an old family computer with a decent cpu (4core i7 @ 3.14GHZ) but it was really slow. Out of no where i decided to change the thermal paste and put a new one. when i opened it it was bone dry and i found out it was slow cuz of bad thermal conductivity. I changed it in the CPU,GPU, and the northbridge and now its blazing fast. You can try that with a good quality TIM and if it doesnt work you can just get a faster HHD or a SSD. these are the most things that affect a computer's speed. (i typed so quickly and joined everything with comas and periods cuz i was in a hurry, sorry for bad punctuation and i hope this helps u)

thx for the reply, i will pick up some thermal paste on my way home from work..since i put together this pc, i havnt reapplied it, so its probably dried out? about the hhd/ssd, i will have to order it and it will take a few days to get here..so wont know for sure till then. hopefully this works

getting thermal paste is a good idea cuz even if the cpu isnt the cause, you still need to change it from time to time but i recommend that you see your read and write speeds from a bench-marking program and if its slower than what the hard disk says it should be then you should get a new one but since you are buying anyways.. switching to an ssd is way better, there are no moving parts in it. Everything is stored on chips, it is 100% worth the upgrade. Dont get another hardisk thats the same to what u have, u wont notice any difference and your money would get wasted. so at the end, the decision is in your hands and you get whatever you want,(plz, get an ssd). I hope this helps and that your pc gets faster.
