Computer Sound Wont Work

my computer says that there isn't anything plugged into any audio jacks whenever i plug my microphone or headphones in. Windows cannot detect the problem neither but when i plug the pc into a hdmi port i can hear sound but the microphone jack still doesnt work

Do you mean the front panel microphone and headphone jacks? They might not be connected internally. Did you build your computer yourself or did you buy a prebuilt?

i bought it prebuilt but they were working when it was bought

I've updated that but it still doesn't seem to be working

Are you using a sound card or onboard?
Did you install the driver from the sound card manufacturer's website, or Realtek for onboard?
Try both front audio and rear audio panel, or different microphone.

I think it is a sound card but I'm not 100% sure and I think it was Realtek. All the ports for either microphone or headphones don't work
I just checked to see if I had a sound card installed which i do but its a Amd High definition audio device does this mean that it only works with hdmi because im not using hdmi

There are usually 2 types of sound card for PC.
1. Onboard sound, where the sound card is built into the motherboard and you won't be able to see a physical card sticking out.
2. Discrete sound card, where you actually purchase a sound card that looks like a wireless adapter PCI card, that you would connect it into the motherboard using its PCI slots.

It sounds to me that you're using onboard sound, what is your motherboard's model number?

The AMD HD audio device is for HDMI audio, the PC utilize this feature when plugging into a display via HDMI. It will not be used when not connected via HDMI to another display.

Tell us the model number of your motherboard.
