Computer starts up but nothing appears on the monitor

So recently put together my old computer and right now everything is in besides the hard drive. The problem is that the computer powers up (fans turn) but nothing appears on the monitor. Also I am unable to turn it off with the on/off switch only the manual one on the psu. Any ideas?

Is your monitor plugged into an onboard video output or into a graphics card?

Check to make sure you connected the front panel cables correctly if the case power button doesn't work.

If your not getting any BIOS error beep codes then you have a monitor issue. Double check all of the connections from the video card to the monitor.
