Computer turns off but power stays on ( lights etc )

Hi
My computer has been turning off while the lights in the computer itself (motherboard, graphics card, etc) have stayed on, keyboard and mouse are completely off with no lights and the monitor still on standby.
During this time i have been playing games on it and it is quite hot at the moment. Is this purely a fail safe before the cpu gets too hot and is turning itself off or should i be worried.
My computer is only a few months old which makes me feel as if it is not parts related.

If you want to turn off your lights on your motherboard then go into your BIOS and there should be an option to turn off LEDS when pc is off
