Computer turns on but won't boot up until I retry several times

Whenever my computer turns off, it won't boot up the first time I turn it back on. It usually takes 10 to 20 tries, turning it off and on, before my computer finally does boot up. This time, I've tried well over 30 times and it's still not booting up.

I can't identify what the problem is. I suspect either the motherboard or power supply but I don't have any spares to test with. All of the fans work when I turn it on, and the power LED too. I don't hear beeps or anything else when I turn it on.. just the fans.

Whenever I turned the computer on, my monitor light would go from red to blue, indicating that it picked up a signal for a second. Then it would go back red since the computer isn't booting up. However, this time, the light on my monitor never goes blue. It's been red through all my latest attempts. I don't know what's going on.

I've tried reseating the ram in different slots. I've tried removing the cmos battery. I've tried unplugging everything. Nothing works.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Could be that the hard drive is struggling and on its way out. They will often work intermittently before they die entirely. Do you have a Windows disc that you can boot from directly? If you can do that and it works consistently, I suspect that may be the problem.

Power supply is another possibility. If that was the issue though, I'd expect the computer to also crash fairly frequently after it booted successfully. Could happen with both, actually, although with a dying hard drive, it would appear to freeze within Windows and give you an error when you tried to do something; a dying power supply the machine itself would just turn off or restart.

I have a solid state drive, not a hard drive, if that makes a difference. Relatively new too. But I will see if I could get my hands on a Windows disc and try that.

And the computer ran perfectly fine when it booted up. No crashes or anything. The only weird thing is that my computer would freeze whenever I tried using this program called DS4 Windows. Dunno if that could be a clue.

Is is the longest I've gone with it not booting up at all. I've been trying it though out the whole day.

Hmm. If it's an SSD, then that's probably not the issue. Solid state drives tend to die suddenly, not gradually.

First thing I would do is try uninstalling DS4 (which as I understand it is basically a driver for a PS4 controller) and see if that helps. It could be a software problem caused by what is basically a driver conflict. Try unplugging any USB devices while trying to do this, too.

If that doesn't do anything, cheap or free fixes I'd attempt:

- Replace the CMOS battery with a new one

- Test the PSU with a multimeter

- Try the graphics card in another machine if possible

If you post your full system specs, that would help too.
