Computer Upgrade. Need help

So I've been looking about getting an upgrade for my computer for a while. Leaning towards a new Processor and a new Graphics Card. I had Intel Core i7 6700K in mind along with a
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 AERO 8G, but I'm not a 100% sure whether these would best suit my computer.

I'm currently running a i5 4670 along with a GTX 760.

I do a fair bit of video editing and that so I have 28Gb of Ram along with a 400GB SSD so those two areas are fine.

Need a better processor I feel as often times when I am running my and video editing that it maxes out to 100% usage and would cause the whole think to get loud and overheat. I do tend to game a fair bit aswell on this computer, hence the GPU upgrade.

Hoping some people can throw suggestions to help me out.

I wouldn't consider the 6700k enough of an upgrade above the 4670 to bother at this time. What video editing software are you using? Can you offload that to the cpu? Cuda/opencl. If you really want at quad core with hyperthreading you can go for an i7, the i7 4700 series. Keep the same motherboard.

In order to use 6700k you'd have to upgrade your motherboard and memory as well, so that will get expensive.

To upgrade using some of your existing stuff, i'd look for a 4770k or 4790k. And a after marked HSF to keep it all cool. But as pointed out that won't provide huge improvements.

However If you do want to upgrade to a newer chip things get a lot more expensive...
It might provide you with some tangible improvements, but not sure they are worth it.

As for GPU it's all about how much money you want to spend on it, 1070 is great for 1440p or lower. And you can expect to get it for under $400. Also it should help with your editing as long as the SW you use has CUDA support.

In any case i'd upgrade the GPU to the 1070 or better first and then see how things work out before looking into upgrading the CPU in the first place.

He did not indicate that he has a K cpu right now, so we can't assume he has the right chipset to go with a K processor. What motherboard do you have now?

If you're doing gaming + streaming and video capture/editing/encoding, you're much better off with an overclocked Ryzen 1700 build. You will get 90-95% of the gaming performance of a 7700k, but it will be MUCH better at streaming and encoding.

Just gaming? Yeah stick with Intel.
Mixed workloads? Ryzen is a no-brainer.
