Computer uses up more resources than it should be

Hello, I have about 4gigs of ram installed and my computer has been running pretty poorly lately. When idle the computer uses up 50% of the physical memory, and when I play games such as Star Wars: Old Republic, it goes up to around95% which causes severe lag. I was wondering what I software I can use or utilities would help with my current situation.

Your Windows "theme" takes up half your RAM at all times... (mine does anyway). but having 4gb and a 4gb page file... you should be fine. Try defualting your windows areo theme or kill the process... and see how much more RAM gets free'd up

My system is using 1.7G of the 6G available just running FireFox (Intel i7-950 build). I turned Aero off to help gaming performance, but don't know if it helped.

Why not add 4G more RAM?

ok seriously .. this is really bugging me your running windows 7 ultimate 64bit but you only have 4 gbs of ram... seriously thats whats wrong with that picture .. ram is so cheap right now .. you should be able to to get at least 8 gbs or 16 gbs for dirt cheap ... if i were you id get 16 gbs of ram and turn off the paging file you will see a big improvement .. in performance .. and the paging file will not be taxing your hard drive any more.

More ram certainly wouldn't hurt, but your bios video settings are using 1.7 gig of shared memory. Change this to 256mb until you upgrade to more memory.
