Computer went black, fans speed insanely high, shut off, not working with GPU in

Pretty much the title, the bios won't even load when the card is in just want to know why. I was playing a game when the fans sped up really fast, and the screen went black. Tried rebooting and the computer sat there trying to boot for like 10 mins, then I took GPU out and it loaded. I have a broken pcie slot under the one I am using, but that's been broken for a few weeks, don't know if it played a role.

MSI Z97 Gaming 7
Intel-I7-4790s
EVGA GTX 1080 Ti
32 GB ripjaws ram
About 5 case fans, and a corsair H55 CPU cooler
