Hi

Ich have build a computer for a friend about 2 years ago,

last week he connected his gopro via usb to his computer and all went black.
die gopro started up fine a day later, but the computer does nothing, no led, no fan spin, nothing.

first i thought maybe its the power supply, i have the exact same power supply so we switched, but still his computer does nothing.
i still think its power related, but i cant figure it out.

What i have done sofar:

I checked the cables,
tested with a working power supply,
CMOS reset,
removed all the front pannel connectors, tried starting via bypassing the Power SW pins on the motherboard

still the computer does nothing, not one beep, fan spin or led.

Specs:

Tower: Corsair Carbide Series Quiet 600Q
Power Supply: Corsair RM 750x
Motherboard: MSI Z270 Sli Plus
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
Graphic Card: MSI Gforce GTX 1060 6 GB
Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR 4 16 GB

Now im clueless, any help is welcome

This sounds like the GoPro caused a short, when connected, resulting in a damaged PC.

Was this a front panel or back panel USB port? If front panel, disconnect those headers from the motherboard and try powering up again.

If back panel (USB ports attached directly to motherboard), then I suspect the motherboard is damaged beyond repair.

I suspect a short occurred and the motherboard, at a minimum, is dead. Sorry.

thx for your quick answer,

if its the motherboard, shouldn't there be atleast a fan spin
(usually i have the fans connected to the motherboard, for debugging i connected a fan to the towers fan connectors, but neither of them spin)

are there any tests to make sure its the motherboard?
