Question Computer will lag heavily and then sometimes disconnect the monitor.

My computer will sometimes lag heavily causing my mouse to become unresponsive and audio to stutter very drastically. It will usually become responsive for few seconds and then repeat this, until I either restart the system or the monitor disconnects. I have tried a different monitor and cable and this still happens, is this a GPU issue?
