Computer will not boot, want to wipe hard drive and re-install Win 10.

Is this a new occurrence? Can you post your full spec??

Might be worth following this to see if you can reach post, and once you can do that successfully, we can move to the HDD wipe.

I have been fighting this for the past four weeks. I have tried any and all suggestions from numerous sources, with no luck. This started with a routine factory reset of the computer. All appeared normal and as WIN 10 started, I had no keyboard or mouse, so I could not get by the first page of WIN 10. I restarted multiple times with same results. I was able to get into BIOS, but not SAFE mode. I changed the BIOS to USB first and restarted. I used a new WIN 10 media USB. Computer started but WIN 10 would fail a few pages past the Microsoft log in. I restarted and on the second page of WIN 10 there is an item in the lower left of the page that says you can repair your computer. Went there and went through all of the different locations, but none would work or complete. However, I could get a Command Prompt. And I have tried several things there, but it still will not boot. It is now in a locked mode with the WIN 10 Automatic Repair which also never fully starts or completes. No matter how many times you restart it goes back to Automatic Repair.

You should delete all existing partitions at the beginning of the Windows install. Windows will make new ones.

Boot your rig from the flash drive and choose to reinstall Windows, partitions can be deleted/created at the beginning of the process....destroy...everything.... Understand that your current install is a total loss so you may have to track down driver and software after the fact. Not ideal but you should be fine if you have common/mainstream hardware.

I have removed hard drive, and used an adaptor to USB. Plugged the drive into another computer and salvaged my files. The drive looks OK, but I would like to wipe it and re-install it back into the computer and
install WIN 10. My question is; will the computer start up on the wiped drive and then will I be able to install the USB Win 10 stick?

Your options (at least some have already been mentioned):
1. delete all partitions on the hard drive while connected to 2nd computer via USB adapter/dock.
2. After boot from Windows 10 USB flash drive, be sure you tell it to wipe all partitions. I know the wording may not be this way on Windows 10, as it hasn't been for me at work with Dell Windows 10 DVDs. The wording there is "Restore from Drive" and then "Wipe all" or something to that extent. Somehow I forget the exact wording.

Either way, once you kick off the Windows installation, you should be all set.
