computer will not start up unless i press the cases start up button repeatedly

This problem just started recently and has me concerned that my PSU is a piece of crap ( according to reviews that i have read about the brand that i have ) .

let me first tell you what i have in my set up .

MOBO is msi 970 gaming ( ms-7693 )
CPU amd fx 8350 vishera
Memory g.skill 16 gb 4x4
GPU nvidia geforce 730 2gb ddr3 by msi
psu raidmax 500 bronze
OS windows 7 64 bit pro
1tb wg blue
case is raidmax viper 2 with 3 120 mm fans ( two of the fans are led )
corsair H60 water cooler

extras i have the HUE+, and the nzxt sentry 3 fan controller

i may have answered my own question here but want to be sure and get opinions

this is my first DiY build . i have it running for about 2 weeks now and just recently added my nzxt sentry 3 . this is where my problem started . After i installed the sentry 3 i had to repeatedly hit the start button on the case to get the systems to turn on . once it is on every thing works fine .
now after reading reviews every where . i am wondering if my psu is able to handle my setup . or that maybe my start up button on case has gone bad . i am to the point i am tired of messing around with my system and worry that i may fry something . my main concern tho is the PSU i read alot about raidmax and none of them really good . could it be that this psu just does not have what it takes to run system? as i stated once i get the pc started every thing works fine . i am even on it right now as i write this . grant you that i could remove the sentry 3 and see what system does then but again tired of messing around with it and am very worried that i may mess something up . and truth be told i wold really love to keep every thing i got running on the system . the sentry 3 is a good item to have IMO specially when my speedfan program does not allow me to control my fans . any suggestions and help is welcomed


also just to state every thing in system is brand new nothing used or old parts from another pc. and have no way to test another psu to see if that is the problem . again evry thing is working fine including memory lol

Your problem is almost certainly either the Raidmax PSU, although it would certainly help to know WHICH model of Raidmax PSU you have, or the case switch is faulty. Of course, there could be other reasons but if it works if you press the power button enough times I'd say it's likely that either the front panel I/O mini board or switch is bad, or that the PSU is faulty. When posting specs it helps to know exact model numbers rather than just brand names, so if you can provide those it would be helpful.

Just to be on the safe side, it would be a good idea to double and triple check all internal connections, and reseat RAM, graphics card and everything that has a cabled connection including the 4/8 and 24 pin power connections to the motherboard which can also typically cause issues like this when not FULLY seated. Often you might THINK those plugs are all the way down, but are not, and can intermittently not work right.

i was thinking the power switch myself.

i would test the switch by opening the case and removing the switch wires from the board and manually connecting the 2 pins with a screwdriver. this will trigger the boot-up like the switch is supposed to. to turn it off, do it again and hold for a few seconds. try it a few times, if it boots ok, then you know it is the switch and it needs to be replaced which is easy to do usually if you have a spare lying around.

if it still has issues, then you can look toward the psu and go from there.

the model of the psu is RX-500AF-B . and i have checked and rechecked every thing . removed and reinstalled and so on .

i have done what you suggested took cover off unpluged the connector from mobo and used the screwdriver . and the result was the same as if i was pushing the start button repeatedly. meaning i had to tap the connections multible times for it to start up . now i am really thinking it is the psu that is the issue lol

Yes, if it does the same thing when jumping the pins on the motherboard, it is either the PSU or the motherboard. You can test the PSU manually to see if you get erratic behavior, but honestly, I'd replace it or return it anyhow, as it's junk. No offense to you of course.

well i honestly do not think its the mobo that is the issue here . as stated it did not start till i added my nzxt sentry 3 fan controller. and after seeing alot of reviews on raidmax psu's i am leaning towards the i made a bad choice in selecting it . with this in mind and my set up which one would you or any one else recommend that i should get ?

What country are you in, do you have any online retailers that you absolutely prefer to order from and do you have any plans to upgrade to a higher tiered graphics card at any point in the near or not so distant future?

live in USA and mainly use newegg . and yes i do plan on upgrading my gpu ..soooometime in the future lol

You have a very low end graphics card right now, and it will run perfectly fine on a 300-450w unit, as will many of the entry level gaming cards with much better performance than the card you have now, so my first instinct would be to assume that for you an upgrade might be something like a GTX 950, 960 or an equivalent level AMD card. And that would be fine, but I don't want to recommend a unit in that capacity range only to find out later that instead you were moving to a much higher end graphics card and now the PSU you just bought not that long ago isn't going to have the needed capacity and needs to once again be replace.

So I'll make two recommendations, one of which is right about where you need it to be for now OR if you went with one of the entry level gaming cards I mentioned. The second will be intended for use with a somewhat higher end gaming card if you think you might end up going that way.
