I have an external WD Hard Drive that I have been having trouble with. A few days ago I noticed that the drive was no longer being recognized by the machine. It wasn't showing up in my drive list and wasn't appearing in Device Manager. I tried a few different cables just to make sure it wasn't something with that but the issue persisted.

I removed the drive from the enclosure and connected the drive directly to the Mobo with a spare SATA cable. If I power the machine on the lights and fans will come on for a second before cutting off. I've tried two separate SATA connectors and two separate power connectors including the ones that work with the native drive. I've tried it with just that drive plugged in but the same issue occurs. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!

To me it only sounds like the circuit board has gone. Any signs of burning or anything on the circuit board under the hard drive? (black spot, smells of burning). There are data recovery specialists that can do it (cost a fair bit) however i'm pretty sure if its just the circuit board, it shouldnt cost you too much. Otherwise the hard drive has to go through a clean room facility to recover the data.

No damage to any part that I can see without taking it apart which I won't be doing. OK, well I'll see where I can get with a recovery specialist. Thanks a bunch!
