Question Computer will only boot with one stick of RAM installed ?

Brand new components. I have a MSI B650. AMD Ryzen 5 and GPU AMD 590.

I'm trying to use 2 x 16GB RAM sticks. My computer only boots with only 1 memory stick. When I try any other combination of slots it doesn't work and the computer does not boot.

What is odd, is that at my motherboard CPU power plug, there is a 8-pin connection and also a 4-pin connection. I am currently using the 8-pin only because my power supply only offers that. But the computer still turns on.

Which slot is the ram populating on the motherboard?

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:

include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
