I have just purchased an AMD Ryzen 9 5900x processor to replace my 2700. My motherboard is an Asrock B450M/ac. I updated the BIOS to their 3.10 version which should allow the motherboard to run 5000 series processors.

After installing, everything in the computer lights up and the fans run, but both of my dual monitors remain black. I put in the old processor and it worked like normal. So I thought it was my 5900x and returned it to get a new one. I installed the new one the same way and got the same results.

I have 4 sticks of 8gb RAM. My psu is 850 watts. I took it to Geek Squad and they had no idea where to start looking.

Remove/disconnect all extraneous components except 1 stick of RAM and the GPU, and reset BIOS to default and see what happens.
My BIOS won’t reset after attempting clearing CMOS and taking out the battery. I ended up putting in the old CPU and everything runs regularly.

Normally, when you drop in a new CPU or RAM you will get a DOS-like prompt to load BIOS default settings or enter the BIOS. Did you ever receive this message?

As for clearing the BIOS, be sure the PC is unplugged from the wall when you do this. Having unplugged the PC, tap the power button to discharge the PSU's capacitors and then unplug the CMOS battery. Leave it for 10 minutes before re-placing it.

I am assuming that your motherboard is indeed compatible with the 5900x. In my experience, Ryzen motherboards prior to the 5xx series are, to be blunt, not very good.

I went ahead and pulled trig on a MSI Mag B550 Tomahawk and will see what happens after that gets here.
